The (GHS) has unveiled plans to operate Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and polyclinics around the clock, in support of the government's 24-hour economy initiative. In a report by citinewsroom.com, the GHS Director-General, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, said the move is intended to improve access to healthcare by making services available at all times across the country. Dr Akoriyea, speaking at a press briefing on Monday, July 14, 2025, described the move as a strategic and timely response to rising healthcare demands and part of efforts to boost national development. He assured the public that adequate security arrangements would be implemented to ensure the safety of both staff and patients during the extended hours. "The reason is to align with the 24-Hour Economy Model.
The other reason is to take advantage of this opportunity to improve our services.
Currently, many CHPS facilities do not run 24-hour operations, and at night, people often struggle to access care," he said. The goal is to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide, especially in underserved communities.
