Ghana's Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, remains confident of progressing to the knockout stage of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) despite a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in their opening Group C match.

The Queens were undone by a solid Banyana Banyana side on Monday, but Bjorkegren believes his team showed promising signs and can bounce back in their next games. "We were playing against the previous [champions], so maybe it's the toughest game you can play at this tournament," he said in his post-match reaction. "Like I said, we did many good things and we will take the good things with us into the next two games.

I'm pretty sure we are going to make the playoffs, which is important." Ghana will now shift focus to their second group fixture against Mali on Friday, July 11, before facing Tanzania in their final group game.
