Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has firmly rejected accusations made by Dr.
Charles Wereko-Brobbey, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), regarding his tenure as Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
In a strongly worded statement, Afenyo-Markin described the former VRA boss's comments as factually inaccurate and misleading, particularly the suggestion that he was responsible for ECG's "huge losses" in 2023 and early 2024. "I was not the Chairman of the ECG Board in 2023, as Dr.
Wereko-Brobbey suggested," Afenyo-Markin clarified. "I was appointed by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 16th July 2024, and officially sworn in on 17th July 2024." He further noted that his first board meeting took place on 31st July 2024, and his tenure lasted for only six months, ending in January 2025.
