There are increasing cases of hypertension among the active working class, mostly informal sector workers, in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.

Mr Wisdom Peprah, the health officer in charge of Nutrition at the Dormaa West District Hospital, who disclosed this, said the cases were, however, low among the aged.

He said a hypertension screening exercise conducted by the hospital for 16,000 persons in the area revealed that 67 percent of them were living with the Non-Communicable Disease.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkrankwanta, the district capital, he said the district had a total population of 30,000, saying four out of every 10 persons had hypertension.
