Lawyer Atta Akyea, lead counsel for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has raised serious concerns following the Accra High Court's adjournment of his client's GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity case.
Akyea accused the judiciary and the Attorney General's office of undermining the defence's right to a fair trial while speaking to reporters after the court session, "The judge is saying the Attorney General should not give the documents to us," Akyea disclosed. "So then, how do we go along with the trial when all the exculpatory evidence we see, they should bring it?
This is where we are." The case, which centres on alleged misappropriation of funds intended for a cybersecurity defence software project, has now been adjourned to July 18 for commencement of full trial.
However, the defence lawyer is not pleased with the manner in which proceedings are being handled. "Because somebody is in an ambulance mood to secure somebody's conviction," Akyea stated pointedly, suggesting undue haste and pressure from the prosecution. "We will see what we do.
