The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, , while campaigning for the (NPP) flagbearer, , paused a moment to issue a caution during the Greater Accra tour of the party.
The incident happened when the campaign van made a stop at Abossey Okai, a vehicle spare parts selling hub.
Kennedy, while admonishing the spare parts dealers to support Bawumia, promised them flat rate taxes and the abolishment of nuisance VAT, which burdens them.
This according to him was in line with Bawumia's promise to scrap it when he resumes office in 2025. "The duties that you have been paying are expensive.
I learned there are a lot of things included in such duties: AU tax, SM Bank tax, ECOWAS tax, and a lot of complicated stuff.
Bawumia has promised to cancel all those taxes when he comes to power and merge the taxes into one. "If we don't stand up for Bawumia and a different government takes over, the alternative is not the best.
I am telling you the gospel truth, the alternative is scary," he said while speaking on September 5, 2024.
He assured them of better administration under the leadership of Bawumia.
However, he cautioned Bawumia that should he fail to fulfill his promises made to the public, especially the abolishment of taxes after he resumes office, he would go public and talk about it.
He emphasized that Bawumia should ensure such promises are fulfilled when he assumes the highest seat of the nation. "So, I am pleading with you, Abossey Okai people, as Dr.
Bawumia has promised us a flat tax, I told him that, Doc, it shouldn't be that you made me go to Abossey Okai and told them about a flat tax…when you come to power and fail to fulfill your promise, I will say it. "For him, he has promised me that as he has said he will do it, he will surely do it.
So, I should be a watchman and police the policy.
So, I have faith in Dr.
Bawumia so let us give him the opportunity," he added.
