The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned robbery targeting a gold consignment valued at over GHC 1.3 million, arresting three suspects in the process.

According to a statement from the Police, the suspects - Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey - were arrested on Thursday, June 26, 2025, along the Accra-Akuapem-Mamfe road following a targeted intelligence-led operation.

The operation, initiated by the Special Support Unit (SSU) at the National Police Headquarters, began a day earlier, on Wednesday, June 25, after police gathered intelligence suggesting that a driver working for a gold dealer and an individual posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled gold delivery.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kenneth Khartey, one of the suspects, was arrested near Akuapem-Mamfe while trailing the vehicle transporting the gold - a Land Cruiser - on a motorbike.
