Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson has called on Ghanaians to adopt a renewed commitment to responsibility and national unity, cautioning that greed and selfish ambition are undermining the country's collective resources and jeopardising the welfare of future generations.
Delivering a sermon at the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving in Accra on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Cardinal Turkson stated that real prosperity extends beyond financial wealth, encompassing essentials such as food, clean water, shelter, education, healthcare, and peaceful coexistence. "Ghana is similarly blessed with abundant natural resources.
These blessings must benefit everyone not be ruined by the greed of a few", he noted.
He pointed out that the nation is already bearing the cost of such greed through widespread illegal mining activities, otherwise known as galamsey. "Our Pra River no longer gives us prawns or shrimps.
