Parliament is set to debate the government's 24-hour economy policy in the coming weeks as part of plans to convert the existing Coordinating Secretariat into a full statutory authority.
The move, aimed at strengthening institutional backing for the programme, was confirmed by Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh, during a press briefing ahead of the official launch of the initiative and the Accelerated Export Development Programme. "There has been approval to convert the current 24-Hour Secretariat into an Authority," Tanoh revealed, indicating that legislative support for the proposal is already in motion. "Of course, it will get passed by a parliamentary majority. "We need to debate the content of the programme to justify the creation of an authority.
So, it is inevitable that it is going to happen." He noted that the transformation into an authority will allow for better governance, efficiency, and delivery of results, especially as Ghana seeks to expand productivity through a three-shift working system that operates around the clock.
Highlighting challenges in the current economic environment, Tanoh pointed out that one major concern among both local and foreign investors is Ghana's inconsistent and unpredictable incentive structure. "The problem is the unpredictability and lack of coherence in the incentive regime, which most investors consider-not just foreign ones, but local investors too," he said. "We want to build a coherent system based on performance, not location."
