National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region have intervened to restore calm after a group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth stormed the Akom Axel Load Station in the Afigya Kwabre North District over allegations of corruption.

According to reports, the youth besieged the axle load station, managed by the Ghana Highways Authority, following claims that fines collected from overloaded vehicles are being underdeclared and embezzled.

They alleged that some officials are cutting unofficial deals with drivers to allow vehicles to continue with excess cargo.

The youth further accused officials of targeting international trucks, claiming drivers pay as much as GHS20,000 to Ghana Highway Authority personnel at the post to proceed with overloaded cargo without official receipts.
