Widespread closures have hit parts of Nkwanta in the Oti Region as escalating tensions and recent violence prompt schools, banks, and businesses to suspend operations.
Confirming the situation in an interview with Joy News on Monday, June 30, Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong acknowledged the disruptions but noted that some areas of the municipality remain relatively calm. "When you talk about Nkwanta town, I think there is some peace there.
Everybody is going about their work normally in some areas for now," Mr.
Gyapong said. "But yesterday was a bad day - we recorded about four deaths in the Nkwanta Municipality." As a precautionary measure, schools in the affected areas have been shut down.
