A former General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, also known as Kabila, has called for the codification of Ghana's history and traditional succession plans to effectively address chieftaincy-related conflicts across the country.
Speaking on JoyNews AM on June 30, 2025, with a particular focus on the recent Nkwanta tribal conflict, Kabila emphasised that the absence of clearly documented succession arrangements frequently leads to disputes and unrest.
He asserted that the lack of clearly defined and legally backed succession plans often creates confusion, enabling individuals without legitimate claims to chieftaincy titles to instigate disturbances. "The truth is those who are fully aware that they are not entitled are the ones who start the chaos," Kabila stated.
He stressed that such codification would help eliminate ambiguities surrounding traditional leadership succession and foster peace, which he deemed essential for national development.
