Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called for a unified national effort to confront and dismantle entrenched systems of corruption that continue to obstruct Ghana's development.
Delivering the keynote address at the Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit organised by the Bright Future Alliance on June 29, 2025, Bagbin described the scale of corruption as alarming, warning that the country loses millions of cedis daily through corrupt practices, tax evasion, and illicit financial flows.
Referencing both historic and recent findings-including the 1970 Justice Anim Report and data from the World Bank and Auditor-General's reports-he cited extensive resource leakages that have crippled national progress.
Bagbin highlighted the Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam project, where $12 million was reportedly disbursed with no corresponding work done, calling it a glaring example of how corruption erodes Ghana's development potential.
