Speaking at the 2025 World Drug Day at the Accra International Conference Centre, Her Excellency, Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, called for the prevention of illicit drugs in the country.

She emphasised the importance of prevention in the fight against drug abuse and noted that Ghana has made progress against conventional narcotics but the shift to synthetic opioids demands adaptability. "The evidence is clear, invest in prevention," the Vice President said, highlighting the theme of World Drug Day 2025. "We must recognize the urgency of this issue and rise to the occasion to put in place appropriate and pragmatic preventive measures,' she noted.

Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang commended the Narcotics Control Commission for its dedication to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

She cited recent operations by the Commission, which have resulted in the seizure of large volumes of illicit substances and the dismantling of criminal syndicates as evidence of Ghana's commitment to the fight against drugs.
