Arthur Kennedy is calling for a full-scale renewal of the New Patriotic Party's internal democratic structures, warning that the party risks deeper decline if it continues to sideline accountability and shut out its base.
In an open letter titled "Democratic Accountability", Dr.
Kennedy criticised the current NPP leadership for attempting to select a flagbearer without first renewing its own mandate, calling the move undemocratic and contrary to the spirit of the party's founding principles. "The party leadership, whose mandate is due to expire, has decided that it wants to choose a flagbearer before renewing its own mandate," he wrote. "This is a disgraceful attempt to sidestep accountability." He lamented the party's increasing hostility toward internal criticism, describing what he sees as a "Fatwa" against dissenting voices, and stressed the importance of restoring a culture where constructive feedback is welcomed rather than punished. "The NPP suddenly issued a FATWA against criticism of the party," he said. "In a democratic party, voices from the base should be encouraged-not silenced."
