President addressed the Global Summit on Health and Prosperity through Immunisation, co-hosted by the European Union, the Gates Foundation, and the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The president, in his concluding remarks, captivated the audience as he painted a vivid picture of how Gavi's investment towards the immunisation of 500 million children immensely impacts precious lives in the world.
The entire audience gave Mahama a rousing applause when he pointed out that the amount of money Gavi has pledged to immunise 500 million children could have been used to purchase four of the United States' famous B-2 Spirit Bombers that were recently used to destroy nuclear plants in Iran. "But to conclude, let me put the Gavi replenishment in context.
Gavi is seeking to spend $9 billion over the next five years, from 2026 to 2030, and that is to immunise 500 million children across the world.
