The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a new insurance package for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), aimed at enhancing their welfare and boosting morale.

The announcement was made during the passing-out parade of Course 55 at the Fire Academy and Training School in Jamestown, where 1,658 recruits - comprising 843 men and 815 women - completed 28 weeks of basic firefighting training.

Addressing the new graduates, the Minister commended their resilience, discipline, and commitment, urging them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and dedication in service to the nation.

As part of new welfare measures, the Minister announced that under the insurance scheme: Firefighters who suffer non-permanent injuries in the line of duty will receive GH¢50,000.00 Those who suffer permanent injuries will be compensated with GH¢100,000.00 In the event of death in the line of duty, a benefit of GH¢100,000.00 will be paid For natural deaths while in service, a benefit of GH¢50,000.00 will also be provided The Minister stressed that this initiative marks just the beginning of broader efforts to improve the welfare, safety, and working conditions of fire personnel across the country. "This is part of our commitment to ensure that our firefighters are not only well-equipped to serve but also protected and supported in the line of duty," he stated, adding that the government will soon roll out additional logistics and resource support for the GNFS.
