The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has pushed back against calls for a total repeal of the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Act, which sought to increase fuel prices by GHS1 per litre.

Although the government suspended its implementation, the Minority in Parliament has called on the Finance Minister to appear before the House next week to repeal the Act.

In an interaction with journalists after a meeting with the Energy Committee of Parliament, the NPA CEO, Godwin Tamakloe asked the Minority to propose an alternative solution instead of demanding a repeal of the levy. "With respect, one would expect that the minority will say that in the absence of the one cedi, this is our alternative to raise that amount. "That conversation appears lost in whatever we are saying now.

If an alternative is provided, I know President John Mahama is a very listening person, so if the minority puts out an alternative  that the president considers durable, he will consider."
