Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, has called for increased production and value addition to farm produce to meet export demands.

Speaking at Channel One TV's AgriFair 2025, he said the country can no longer rely solely on small-scale, family-based farming if it wants to compete in global markets and achieve sustainable economic growth through agriculture. "We all know that the business aspect of farming is missing in this country.

Our mothers and fathers are mostly peasant farmers who produce to feed the family," he said. "But at this stage, we need to look at scaling up our production." The Deputy Minister noted that President John Dramani Mahama is personally chairing a committee focused on sustainable exports, with a national goal of ensuring that Ghana exports what it produces.

To support this vision, Ahi stressed that farmers and agribusinesses must shift their focus to value addition. "If we want to export, then we have to add value to whatever we produce.
