A leading member of the and former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), , has welcomed the party's decision to elect its flagbearer in January 2026, describing it as good move.

In a lengthy statement on his Facebook page on June 19, 2025, Akomea stated that holding the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, is in the best interest of the party.

He further noted that unity in the party can only be achieved once a flagbearer has been chosen to lead the NPP. "The decision was arrived at after the NPP National Council by an overwhelming majority agreed to hold the flagbearer elections first and quickly, is just what the NPP needs at this time. "The party will never close ranks in unity until the flagbearer election is over.
