The Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced a temporary disruption at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and along the Accra-Tema Motorway to allow for an extension project on the highway.
According to a press release dated June 19, 2025, this disruption is expected to cause some traffic congestion on the major route as construction works get underway. "The Ghana Highway Authority, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, wishes to inform the public and all road users of an upcoming traffic management arrangement as part of the ongoing construction works on the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project (19.5km)," the press release stated.
It also added that, "To facilitate central pier construction works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshic Interchange Bridge, the number of lanes on the North-South bound carriageway (Madina to Accra direction) and vice versa will be temporarily reduced from four (4) lanes to three (3)." According to the GHA, the adjustment will commence on Sunday, June 22, 2025, and is expected to last for approximately four months.
The authority emphasised that the construction work is essential to ensure the safety of both workers and road users.
