Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Energy Committee and MP for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has thrown his full support behind the Minority's calls for government to scrap the controversial Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL), widely known as the "Dumsor Levy," warning that Ghanaians cannot withstand further tax burdens.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday June 15, he noted "I am fully in support of the statement that was issued and signed by the Minority Leader, Mr.

Afenyo-Markin.

Our position from day one has been very clear - we don't think at this particular moment in time we should have any additional taxes to overburden the citizenry." Adding "Especially when just last month or so, electricity prices went up by over 14%, and water went up by four percent." The Energy Sector Levy, introduced under the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), was intended to raise revenue to offset Ghana's mounting $3.1 billion energy sector debt.
