Healthcare services have resumed across the country following the suspension of a nationwide strike by members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), bringing much-needed relief to patients and health facilities, particularly in hard-hit areas like Chereponi and Kumasi.
The strike, which was in protest over the government's failure to honour agreed conditions of service, significantly disrupted healthcare delivery nationwide.
While some areas had access to private facilities, many public hospitals faced critical staffing shortages, and there were reports of avoidable deaths due to the absence of nursing staff.
The Chereponi District Hospital in the North East Region was among the worst affected during the industrial action, as the district has no private healthcare facilities.
