The Vice President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Samuel Alagkora Akologo, says he is hopeful the recent nationwide strike by nurses and midwives will not recur following what he described as the integrity and commitment shown by members of Parliament's Health Committee.

Speaking after the suspension of the strike, Akologo expressed confidence in the ongoing parliamentary engagement, noting that the tone and substance of discussions gave the union reason to believe in a lasting resolution. "I don't hope we will re-enact this strike experience because the people we engaged with are honourable men with integrity," he said in an interview. "We want to trust that it is not just a political game." He praised the Committee's constructive approach during talks, saying members were focused on fairness and restoring stability to the health system. "They discussed the issues based on how fair it would be for us, and how we can ensure the health system is restored," he noted, adding that the Association expects firm commitments to be reached at the next meeting on June 26.

The GRNMA suspended its strike after nearly a week of severe disruptions to health services across the country.

The action was in protest of government's proposed deferment of revised conditions of service to 2026.
