The National Chairman of the (NDC), has reacted criticisms from the opposition NPP and threats by members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of protest over the newly introduced Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) 2025.

Reacting to the levy of GHc1 on petroleum products, aimed at funding fuel needed to power thermal plants to ensure stable electricity in an interview with Onua TV on June 12, 2025, Asiedu Nketia stated that he would willingly grant their request to go on a protest.

According to him, if he were President John Mahama, he wouldn't bother to talk them out of the protest.

He, however, noted that alternatively, he would allow them to first go on their protest then he would revert the current price of petrol which is selling at GH¢12 to the GH¢17 price under the previous NPP government. "If I were President Mahama, being a listening government, I would allow the NPP to go on their strike, then I will honour their desire to return to the times of the previous NPP government by reverting the prices of fuel from the current price of GH¢12 to the previously GH¢17 which was their good old days," he stated.
