President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation to work with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to immediately restore the broadcast licenses of radio stations affected by recent regulatory breaches, including Asaase Radio and Wontumi FM.

The NCA had earlier suspended the operations of over 60 stations for multiple infractions related to non-compliance with broadcasting regulations-a move that sparked widespread concerns over media freedom and political bias.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, June 12, Minister Samuel Nartey George announced that the affected stations have been granted a 30-day window to rectify the breaches or face permanent revocation.

He emphasised that the regulatory action was not an attack on press freedom, but a necessary step to ensure order and accountability in the broadcasting sector. "Our fight is not against free speech.
