The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a 14-day ultimatum to over 30 foreign embassies, including Ghana's High Commission in Abuja, to settle outstanding ground rent or risk the closure of their diplomatic premises.
The ultimatum, issued through the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), follows years of non-payment of statutory fees by diplomatic missions, with some arrears reportedly dating back to 2014.
A recent list released by the FCTA shows that a total of N3.66 million is owed by various embassies.
Among those affected are the diplomatic missions of Ghana, Russia, Côte d'Ivoire, Thailand, Turkey, the Philippines, Netherlands, Germany, Guinea, Ireland, India, Uganda, South Korea, Venezuela, Sudan, Niger, and Kenya, among others.
