A former assistant secretary at the presidency under Nana Akufo-Addo, Ibrahim Adjei, has criticised the government's newly approved GHS1 fuel levy hike, accusing the administration of worsening economic hardship under the guise of policy reforms.
He described the levy as a repackaged burden rather than a genuine reset, warning that it would have adverse effects on inflation, production, and overall economic stability.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Monday, June 9, Adjei said the energy levy, introduced through the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, is a disguised attempt to impose further pressure on ordinary Ghanaians. "The resetting that they are talking about is rather a repacking of hardship.
Wait for inflation to skyrocket, and you will see how production will go down.
