Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Richmond Rockson, has hinted that the newly introduced GH₵1 fuel levy could be reviewed and potentially abolished within the next 12 to 18 months, depending on ongoing assessments and progress.

This comes amid mounting public criticism over the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which authorises an increase in the levy on petroleum products.

The move has triggered widespread backlash, with many expressing concern over its potential impact on the cost of living.

Speaking on Channel One TV's 'The Big Issue,' he underscored that Rockson highlighted that the Ministry is actively working on a comprehensive plan to resolve long-standing challenges within the energy sector.
