Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his full support behind President John Dramani Mahama's decision to declare July 1st a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, describing the initiative as timely and unifying.

The day, officially announced by President Mahama earlier this year, is set aside to encourage Ghanaians of all faiths and backgrounds to come together in gratitude and reflection.

The first observance is scheduled for July 1, 2025.

During a visit by members of the event's planning committee to his residence, Akufo-Addo praised the move, calling it a step toward strengthening national unity and promoting peace. "All of us have to support this initiative," he said. "It is clearly a worthwhile initiative - that we have this one day where all of us come together to give thanks to the Almighty for the many, many blessings he has bestowed upon us." The former president reflected on Ghana's political journey, noting that while the country has experienced coups, it has largely remained peaceful and avoided the kind of civil conflict that has plagued other parts of the continent.
