Finance Minister Dr.
Cassiel Ato Forson has presented a new bill to Parliament - the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill 2025 - which proposes adding GHS1 to the levy on petroleum products.
This increase is meant to help the government raise more money to pay off debts in the energy sector and improve electricity supply.
Presenting the bill on Tuesday June 3, Dr Forson explained that at least $3.7 billion is needed to clear the current energy sector debt, which stands at GHS3.1 billion.
