The Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has revealed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) will file charges against the first batch of suspects involved in a corruption scheme at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) before the end of June.
According to Mr.
Agyebeng at a presser in Accra on Monday June 2, the OSP's investigations, which have been ongoing since November 2024 uncovered that between 2022 and 2024, senior officials at the NPA orchestrated a corrupt scheme that exploited their positions for personal gain.
The officials, he said, used threats and abuse of office to extract funds from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). "Our investigations have so far established that the proceeds from this corrupt enterprise amount over GH₵280 million," Agyebeng stated. " Some of these illicit funds were used by the perpetrators to acquire properties, including fuel stations and other assets." Meanwhile, the special prosecutor at an earlier press conference revealed that investigations were ongoing involving three officers of the National Petroleum Authority including former boss Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and one other person.
