Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been picked up by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his appearance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Tuesday, May 27.
Sources familiar with the matter say Wontumi, who had earlier reported to the CID to assist with ongoing investigations, was taken in by EOCO officials later in the day for further questioning.
The specific details of the EOCO probe remain unclear, and his legal team is yet to comment on the latest development.
This comes a day after Chairman Wontumi was formally cautioned by the CID for allegedly engaging in mining activities without the required license, polluting water bodies, and unlawfully entering a forest reserve.
