Administrators at the University for Development Studies (UDS) have declared an indefinite strike effective Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in protest against what they describe as a unilateral and unfair directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to halt the payment of office-holding allowances.

In a statement issued by the University's branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA-UDS), the group described the action by GTEC as a violation of long-established conditions of service, and a breach of trust that threatens the welfare of over 100 affected members. "This decision follows the unilateral directive by GTEC on 28th April, 2025 to stop the payment of office-holding allowances of GAUA-UDS members serving in management and leadership positions in the UDS," the statement read.

The association pointed out that the same GTEC had earlier approved the offices with headship roles in a letter dated September 18, 2023.

GAUA-UDS said the reversal of that decision without consultation represents bad faith and a disregard for due process.
