The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has begun a massive demolition exercise to remove unauthorised structures built on waterways, following recent floods that ravaged parts of the capital.
The operation, which started on Tuesday, May 27, is targeting illegal developments in ecologically sensitive areas, including the Tema, Klagon, and Sakumo Ramsar sites.
These wetlands play a critical role in flood control and natural drainage but have suffered years of encroachment by private developers.
Regional authorities say the exercise is part of a broader strategy to reclaim Accra's watercourses and address the city's persistent flooding problem.
