The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.

Wontumi first appeared at the CID Headquarters in Accra on Monday, May 26, around midday, accompanied by a legal team led by former Attorney General Godfred Dame.

According to a police statement signed by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the CID, Wontumi was cautioned on three key allegations: Undertaking mining operations without a license Polluting water bodies Entering a forest reserve without authorisation The police indicated that the NPP regional chairman fully cooperated with investigators, provided a formal statement, and was granted bail pending further inquiries.

He has been asked to report back to the CID at 3:00 p.m.
