The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Wisdom Lavoe, has disclosed that Tamale is increasingly becoming a major transit point for arms and illicit drugs, linking the surge in arms trafficking to the ongoing conflict in Bawku.
He made the remarks during a security briefing held as part of a working visit to the Northern Region by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mutaka. "The Bawku conflict has now assumed a national dimension, and Tamale is no exception, given its strategic location and its connection to the five northern regions.
It is fast becoming a key transit corridor for arms and illicit drugs, and also a refuge for internally displaced persons from Bawku," ACP Lavoe said.
Despite the growing security threats, he assured that the police remain proactive and committed to maintaining order in the region. "Thanks to the swift response and professionalism of my officers, we are addressing these emerging threats effectively," he stated.
