President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to reparatory justice, emphasising that the lingering effects of slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism continue to shape the lives of Africans and people of African descent.

In his Africa Day 2025 message, Mahama stressed that reparations go beyond financial compensation, calling for a broader acknowledgment of historical injustices and concrete steps to rectify them. "For too long, the legacy of slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism has cast a long shadow on the lives of Africans and people of African descent.

These historical injustices have left deep scars," he stated.

Mahama outlined key measures necessary for achieving justice, including official apologies from institutions responsible for past injustices, addressing Africa's crippling debt burden, and ensuring fair trade practices.
