President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, Tony Asare, is urging immediate evacuation as the only viable option to avert more destruction from the ongoing Weija Dam spillage.
His remarks come amid resistance from residents in downstream communities, who have refused to evacuate despite warnings from Ghana Water Limited (GWL) ahead of the controlled spillage of excess water from the dam.
Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Saturday May 24, Asare stressed that the dangers extend beyond flooding, warning that leaving power on in submerged areas could lead to electrocution and other hazards. "The realistic thing is to be able to evacuate the place.
There is very little else that should be done," he stated.
