The Office of the Auditor-General has issued a formal response addressing recent claims made by the University of Ghana chapter (UTAG-UG) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, regarding alleged overstatement of employee compensations by the University of Ghana between 2022 and 2024.

The response follows a publication dated May 16, 2025, on myjoyonline.com and other media outlets, which cited a special audit report alleging that the University of Ghana overstated its employee compensations by GH₵59.2 million.

This was further amplified during a press conference held by UTAG-UG leadership on May 20, 2025.

In a press release dated May 23, 2025, the Auditor-General's Office clarified that the UTAG-UG's interpretation of the special audit report was "inappropriate and not grounded on facts." The report in question, titled "Special Audit Report on the Recoveries Made from Disallowed Expenditure in the Auditor-General's Reports from 2020-2023 and Payroll Savings as at 31st December 2024," is publicly available on the Audit Service's official website.
