The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as the unlawful arrest and detention of its member and former parliamentary candidate, Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi.

Speaking to Citi Prime News, the party's General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, alleged that the actions taken by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) amount to a violation of Kumi's fundamental human rights, especially given the circumstances surrounding the arrest. "Well, certainly we think it is linked to the petition until the NIB comes out with a different reason because that is what we all know-that he has petitioned the President this week and is yet to receive an acknowledgment of it," Kodua stated, suggesting a direct connection between Kumi's recent petition to the presidency and the sudden move by the NIB.

The party suspects that the timing of the arrest is not coincidental, especially as Kumi had recently filed a formal petition to the President and was awaiting acknowledgment. "Whatever reason they may have, whether it is linked to the petition or any other matter, he still has a fundamental human right," Kodua stressed, defending Kumi's right to due process.

The NPP further criticized the manner in which the arrest was conducted, arguing it was contrary to the legal and ethical standards expected of law enforcement agencies. "His human rights have been abused because that is not a way to arrest and detain a person.
