The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has commenced spillage of excess water from the Weija Dam, given the onset of the rainy season.

In a press statement issued on Friday, May 23, GWL cautioned residents living downstream that, to safeguard the structural integrity of the dam and to avert any potential disaster, minimal spillage has begun.

According to GWL, the current level of the dam is 45ft, thus, 2ft below the maximum safe operating level of 47ft.

GWL stressed that the dam level is increasing steadily and thus urged residents to evacuate the area to prevent the recurrence of past disasters. "The Management of GWL is by this release sounding a word of caution to inhabitants downstream to evacuate the area to forestall any eventuality.
