The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has identified 78 flood-prone areas across the region as part of urgent efforts to minimise the impact of ongoing torrential rains.
The move comes in the wake of a heartbreaking incident in Sunyani, where a 3-year-old boy died after falling into an open drain during a downpour at the Abetifi Electoral Area in the Sunyani East Municipality.
The tragedy has sparked public outcry, with residents calling on the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to urgently improve drainage systems and cover exposed drains that continue to endanger lives, particularly those of children.
Bono Regional NADMO Director, Fati Keni, said the directorate is intensifying community-level education and preparedness campaigns to reduce flood-related casualties. "We have identified 78 flood-prone areas within the region.
