In a striking case stirring local conversation, 38-year-old herdsman Umaru Asumin has been remanded in custody by the Amasaman Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region.

He stands accused of stealing five valuable cattle belonging to his employer, an allegation he firmly denies, pleading not guilty.

During a tense court session, Asumin was denied bail after the presiding High Court Judge, Justice Enid Marful-Sau, expressed concerns regarding his lack of a fixed residence, which raised the possibility that he might evade trial if released. "The complainant, Nashiru Awal, resides in Cambodia, near Spintex Road, and had inherited a herd of cattle," Salifu Nashiru, Police Chief Inspector, told the court, presenting the facts of the case.

Awal had inherited a herd of cattle and initially entrusted their care to a man named Umaru Abdul.
