Editor of Newscenta Newspaper, Elvis Darko, has called on the government to adopt a comprehensive border management strategy to prevent the illegal entry of undocumented migrants into Ghana.
His comments come in the wake of a mass swoop by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) that saw over 2,200 foreign beggars removed from the streets of Accra.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Monday, May 19, Darko questioned the long-term effectiveness of the swoop, warning that without strategic action to secure Ghana's borders, the problem would return within months.
On Friday, May 16, the GIS conducted a large-scale operation across strategic locations in the Greater Accra Region, resulting in the arrest of 2,241 foreign nationals.
