Security officials at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt on Sunday, May 19, 2025, leading to the arrest of a British citizen and two Ghanaians in what authorities describe as a coordinated operation to traffic narcotics into the country.

The British national, who had flown in from Thailand on Emirates flight EK 787 with a stopover in Dubai, was picked up by operatives of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) during a routine inspection.

Two suitcases in the suspect's possession were found to contain 92 slabs of a substance suspected to be cannabis.

Preliminary tests on the seized materials confirmed they were cannabis, weighing a total of 53.60 kilograms.
