The Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has called on the government to implement a digital tracking and participatory monitoring system to enhance transparency and accountability in the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
In a statement released on Sunday, May 18, Eduwatch emphasised that persistent issues such as enrolment padding, poor food quality, and wrongful payments are being sustained by weak oversight structures, which they believe that the adoption of digital tools alongside increased community participation could significantly improve service delivery.
Eduwatch's latest appeal follows years of reported irregularities in the management of the GSFP.
In 2023, the Auditor-General revealed that over GHC 2.5 million had been wrongly paid to non-contracted caterers or as excess payment funds that, to date, have not been fully recovered.
