Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has proposed that funds allocated for the construction of the controversial National Cathedral should be redirected to the Mahama Cares Initiative, a medical trust fund aimed at supporting individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer, kidney failure, and heart conditions.

According to him, if such a proposal is agreed upon, the money could provide financial assistance for critical healthcare needs in the country.

In a post on May 17, 2025, Dr Amoakohene took to his social media page to solicit public support for the initiative, presenting the idea in a suggestive manner. "I move that all donations to the National Cathedral be redirected to the Mahama Cares initiative to support critical needs.

Against or for the motion?" his post read.
