The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to appear before the Energy Committee of Parliament today, Friday, May 16, 2025, to respond to growing concerns over its financial difficulties and ongoing power supply issues.

This follows recent revelations by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, who disclosed that the energy sector is grappling with a monthly funding shortfall of GHC2 billion-an issue largely attributed to ECG's inability to collect adequate revenue.

The session is expected to provide a platform for ECG's management to explain the underlying causes of the utility's financial shortfall, outline their operational challenges, and present strategies to address them.

Chairman of the Energy Committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah, in an interview with Citi News, said the engagement is part of a broader series of consultations with key players in the power sector aimed at identifying the root of the crisis. "We are meeting with all stakeholders in the energy value chain.
