An operation to remove undocumented immigrants off the streets of Kaneshie and Abossey Okai, in the Greater Accra Region, by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), is underway.

The exercise by the government aims to alleviate congestion in these public areas.

In an X video shared by Channel One TV on Friday, May 16, 2025, among these undocumented immigrants are children and their guardians who have been rounded up by officials from the Ghana Immigration Service. "Ghana Immigration officials are undertaking an operation at Kaneshie and Abossey Okai to remove street children and their guardians from these areas as part of efforts to manage irregular migration and public safety," the Channel One TV post on X stated.

A statement released by the Ghana Immigration Service on May, 16, 2025, has further confirmed the exercise, stating that it will be replicated in other cities. "The Ghana Immigration Service wishes to confirm an ongoing operation, commenced in the early hours of Friday, May 16, 2025, aimed at addressing the presence of undocumented migrants on the streets of Accra and other cities," the statement said in part.
